Neville John McLean was born in 1898. He lived in the family home until as late as the 1930's.
In the 1930's Neville moved to New Guinea to be a gold miner. Neville met and married Emilie Grace Murray in New Guinea. They had a son Keith Francis McLean in 1940. Neville helped in the war (US Red Cross) after treking out over The Owen Stanley Ranges (now the Kokoda Track) in advance of the advancing Japanese forces. Keith and his Mum were given 24 hours notice and were flown out to Australia. They had to bury all of their belongings and leave with one case each.
