Alexander McDONALD

Alexander McDonald was born in Strathsprey, Scotland. Not much is know about his life or his move to Australia.

In 1856 he was married to Christina Lamond and they had 9 children together as well as bringing up Christina's illegitimate child, John McLean.

Alexander and his brothers, Peter and Duncan, lived on the South Coast of NSW in Shoalhaven until 1867 when they all moved up to Maizegrove, Lismore. They were mentioned as a Pioneering family of the Lismore District.

Alexander McDonald passed away in 1889 with an interesting story which led to a coroner's inquest about his health.

Weirdly his obituary mentions him leaving a "widow and family of 9". Other articles mention that he had "6 sons and 3 daughters" which again would exclude John McLean. Perhaps he never considered him a son? Perhaps they fell apart? Strange.
